Dr Matthew Raphael Johnson looks at the life’s work of his own personal Bishop, who has just passed away.On January 30, 2021, Metropolitan Damaskin (Balabanov, 1956-2021), Dr. Johnson’s bishop in Moscow, reposed in the lord at the age of 65. While totally unknown by Orthodox people in the west, Damaskin was a profound theologian and political writer. The essence of his political mission was to show how the fall of the Russian throne was the responsibility not merely of the western bakers, the British government, the Talmudists and Masons, but also of all those who refused to actively defend it. The population as a whole bears responsibility, as we do in our own country today. He was a modern day prophet in the same line as Amos, Ezekiel and Jeremiah. Having himself been arrested several times in the 1980s for organizing anti-Soviet labor unions in the Ural steel mills, he built his political and theological vision in prison. He pointed out that in 1917 “not a single Russian bishop stood in Truth. Even the most important monarchists and clerical theologians turned out to be apostate traitors or, at best, worthless chatterers. Not a single Orthodox bishop was found who would have followed the example of Patriarch St. Hermogenes. Their status and vaunted learning turned out to be exaggerated and completely useless.” The monarchy fell in no small part because it was abandoned for the sake of respectability and convenience. In March of 1917, the entire synod, including St. Tikhon (then bishop of Lithuania), actively supported the provisional Government and encouraged its overthrow of the monarchy. The synod itself isn’t a guarantee of truth. Bishops are often more corrupt than anyone else, especially today, where the pressure to conform can be overwhelming. Damaskin wrote “After the overthrow of the Tsar, the Synod not only refused to anathematize the revolutionaries, but itself set an example of servile loyalty to the Masonic Provisional Government, calling on the rest of the Orthodox Russian people for the same obedience to the godless regime.”Our struggle is a lonely and a thankless one. Dr Matthew Raphael Johnson explains what is really happening in Burma/Myanmar and why it is relevant to us.On February 1, the Burmese military took over the country, nullifying the results of a fraudulent election from November which had installed liberal, color revolutionary, media darling Aung San Suu Kyi. From a westernized, very wealthy family, Kyi was educated in the west and serves the CIA and the Soros-banker fronts explicitly. In the aftermath of the November 8 elections, the color revolutionaries allegedly won 396 out of 476 seats in parliament, cutting the military-based parties from political relevance.  The military-backed Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) insists that the CIA and its local agents rigged the elections, citing 10.5 million cases of irregularities. These have led to mass protests in all major states and cities of the country.The purpose of this fraudulent election is to enshrine liberalism over the political life of the country, which is a way to pull Burma out of its pro-China policy. More broadly, the point is to break the development of the New Silk Road project, a multi-trillion dollar, anti-liberal infrastructure project unifying the Eurasian plain against the west. Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said Big Tech platforms do not have to respect the First Amendment’s free speech provisions – which is true. But he accused social media platforms of being “too lax and lazy about enforcing their own terms of service” and called for more censorship.
“The tech companies have been far too lax and lazy about enforcing their own terms of service,” said Greenblatt, speaking during a congressional hearing. “They do not, as businesses, have to abide by the First Amendment.”
He said that tech companies should do more to handle content that incites violence. He acknowledged the steps taken over the past months but noted the removals should have been done a long time ago.
“But even then, freedom of expression isn’t the freedom to incite violence,” he explained. “And what’s happened in the past 30 days – taking off the worst actors – it should have happened years ago.”
Greenblatt was also asked if the “presidential rhetoric” played a role in fostering hate over the past four years.
“Fighting hate previously was not a Republican issue or Democratic issue, it was a bipartisan issue. That changed in the last four years,” Greenblatt said. “The prior president, indeed… from the rhetoric he used on the campaign in 2015 and 2016… when he would retweet white supremacists, and he would use their language, terms like ‘globalists,’ or whatnot, and ‘George Soros.’”
“That created the conditions in which they felt encouraged,” he added.
“The extremists felt emboldened, congresswoman [Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-NY)], and they leapt into the vacuum that he created, and they recruited, they did more public events, they ran for office, and they really exploited social media,” said the ADL CEO. “So they felt emboldened.”
